I know that is the standard reply by the Left...   Problem is however
AQ showed how the Algerian model of 1954 no longer worked -- that is
to say, a small band of thugs could win because the surrounding
"population" would never turn against them...  In Iraq AQ lost BECAUSE
Sunni Iraqis turned against AQ and helped non-Moslem Americans to win
BECAUSE AQ was shown to be a  death cult and most folks favoring
living...  The same can be said for Sadr's thugs...

A simple proof --  if the majority of Iraqis had wanted us to leave
and had supported AQ and Sadr we would have be badly defeated...  As
it is, Iran now must deal with a bordering country with far greater
freedoms and less oppression, and explaining that to their oppressed
majority is impossible except through more repression...
