Flying during a healthy pregnancy is not risky unless the plane
crashes, Mike! By healthy, I mean a healthy mother and child. The womb
is the best insulated carrier ever designed. There are plenty of
earthbound mothers who must take to their beds during pregnancy for
various reasons. I was not one of them. My neighbor is expecting twins
and has been on a bed-rest program for the last few months- luckily
with a loving husband and extensive family support. She is quite slim
and age 41. I assume pelvic pressure but have no desire to pry into
the details. Memory stirs...I was hit by some female hippie in a car
accident at 8 month's pregnant which knocked me over to the passenger
side (pre-seat belt/airbags which might have been far more dangerous).
You should have seen the shock when I emerged with a scowl! The police
insisted I get checked out at the hospital- a few minutes away- and I/
baby were fine. During that same pregnancy, I fell over backwards
leaning back in a dining room chair playing gin rummy with my 10 year
old son- no problems. Then seeing the "Bad News Bears" with another
family I missed my step on a curb and fell flat forward- they took me
to their home and insisted I drink two glasses of sherry- no problems.
The danger I best avoided was being separated from my husband for
nearly the entire pregnancy and a beautiful baby girl was born- on
schedule. That solution also worked two years later with the birth of
a healthy son. Indeed, the greatest risk to women is their husbands
which is why older cultures may be wiser in separating the sexes.//I
suppose you would scold Joseph for placing Mary on a donkey prior to
her virgin birth!!!
