My complaints about it have to do with the way it impinges on the local people who are kept away whenever the pres wants to go into places. If he wanted to eat out at 2 PM when the lunch half hour is over, have at it. By doing this when he chose to he infringed on the half hour people get for lunch whether they want to meet him or not. Announce you are going to be there and then people can choose to show up or not. If they don't want to they can go elsewhere.
You must not be familiar with the entourage that accompanies these meet and greets. You have the main limo, then a couple of others for the secret service, usually a couple of motorcycle cops in front, a couple of motorcycle cops in back, and then you have the media, which is the whole purpose of the trip, trailing behind, usually 10-15 cars. Then they get to where they are headed and part and there goes you parking lot, filled up. At that point the SS covers the area and then lets the pres and VP out and hurries them into the site. By this time others of the SS have gotten inside and are checking everything out including the restrooms and the kitchens. They stand around covering the whole thing and Bambi and Joe are surrounded and a few people are let in and the cameras focus on them with the people. When it is over and Bambi has had his burger or waffle or whatever, then the process is reversed. When you check the news broadcast all you see of this is the small area around Bambi and Joe and the few people who were allowed in and it is played as if all these people were allowed to crowd around him. Never happen. Those days are gone The SS is in charge of what goes on and they do not let that many people that close, especially when it is in a closed area. Remember what happened to RFK and that was over 40 years ago. Things have really tightened up since then, especially after the Reagan shooting. studio wrote: > On May 8, 2:29 pm, dick thompson <[email protected]> wrote: > >> And there was no news to be reported other than Bambi and Joe had a >> burger with Dijon Mustard.
