Joseph M. 'Jo Jo'; White grew up in St. Louis, MO. He won all-state honors in basketball twice. At the University of Kansas he earned All- American honors and was named on their All-time basketball team. In 1968 Jo Jo was on the gold medal-winning US Men's Olympic Basketball Team along with Tortuga the post turtle ;).
In 1969 he enlisted as a rifleman but never left the states. While serving in the Marines he was drafted by the Boston Celtics and was named to the NBA's All-rookie team. He got the MVP award in 1976. The Celtics retired his number 10 in 1982. Jo Jo says the Marine Corps gave him the discipline and training regimen to succeed. This year, Jo Jo was inducted into the Marine Corps Sporrts Hall of Fame by Gen. James Conway. Interestingly, Gen.
