A Republic is a form of Democracy....or simply another name for a dictatorship. i.e. The Republic of China, The Republic of North Korea, the Republic of Egypt... In the official name; The United Sates Of America, there is no mention of it being either. The name is not The Republic of the United States of America (RUSA), or the Democratic Republic of The United States of America (DRUSA). You can try to get an amendment calling it that if you want, but I doubt you'd succeed. As I recall from my history lessons; the southern states tried changing the name once to; Confederate States of America (CSA).
