Credits: FACEBOOK PHOTO QMI AGENCY A Christian ministry that aimed to "cure" gay people has apologized to the gay community and announced it is shutting down. "I am sorry we promoted sexual orientation change efforts and reparative theories about sexual orientation," Exodus International president Alan Chambers said in a statement Wednesday on the ministry's website, referring to people the ministry called "ex-gay survivors." "For quite some time we've been imprisoned in a worldview that's neither honoring toward our fellow human beings, nor biblical." Later in the day, the Florida-based group with 260 member agencies across Canada and the US voted to shut down altogether after 37 years. Board member Tony Moore apologized "for for years of undue judgment by the organization and the Christian Church as a whole." The statement said they are not "negating the ways God used Exodus to positively affect thousands of people," but would be starting a new ministry that would be "safe, welcoming and mutually transforming."
