As Nick delved into the computer information began to spring up ontot he
screen in front of him.
Hilario
Born: 353 BC
Joined: 335 BC
Death: 326 BC
Summary: Hilario was a well respected member of the Legacy until shortly
after his wifes suicide in 325 BC. He was responsible for many break
through's int he area of demon hunting and considered to be one of the
utmost authories on the subject. To this day, few had his special
understanding of the Darkside. Unfortunately, after his wife's death the
lure of the Darkside was too strong for him to resist and he turned against
his own house in Athens, trying to slaughter all who resided within it. His
means of accomplishing this was through his journal. He watched the
housemembers closely, employing spies among the servants. The journal was a
mysterious gift sent to a young security officer who had recently suffered
the tragic lose ofhis twin. He was dead within days of receiving the book.
Hilario was hunted down and exicuted for performing an act of black magic
against his own house. However, his journal remained in the Athens house
claiming a multitude of lives over the centuries before the cause of the
deaths was discovered. The journal was scheduled for destruction and
burned, the ashes buried in several locations throughout the world. There
was some speculation that the incorrect journal was burned, a story
circulated for years that a wayward Legacy member by the name of Tiberius
rescued the journal, replacing it with a forgery just before it was hurled
into the flames. Tiberius was not known to be an agent of the darkside and
if this is true, many believe he saved it thinking it might be of use to the
Legacy in the future. However, there is evidence to substaniate any of
these rumors, which were checked out carefully at the time and Tiberius was
cleared of all charges.
The Journal:
It is believed that Hilario put a spell on the ink in the journal. This
spell enables the book to be delivered to Legacy members who are
experiencing deep emotional upset. It is not until the viction touches the
ink, that the spell actually effects them. From all accounts it draws the
victim into a dark place deep inside. Allowing their feelings of despair to
fester and grow, holding them prisoneer until they can no longer stand to
live. At first they have strong hallucinations and withdraw from everyone
around them. Later, it leads to suicide. The last lines of Hilarios'
journal read as follows.
"May you all suffer the same death that you CLAIM destroyed my beloved
wife."
Remedy: the effects of this spell were cured by counter spell combined with
a cleansing bath of witchhazel, rose petals and spring water. The spell
must be spoken by a young woman resembling the love he lost, if spoken by
any other it will lead to instantaneous death. Hilario's wife was of small
stature with dark hair. The bath water must also be concecrated by the
Greek Gods.
In one of the large books Derek was sorting though, he found the counter
spell. Which he read over quickly.
Counter spell:
I beg the spirit deep inside
To fight the voice far and wide
Denouce the evil that holds you tight
And fly with me through the night
To all those who hold you dear
The ones who will vanquish all your fears
As you return to your friends
The lost ones voices are at an end.
No more to pull you far away
No more to try and make you stay
(alright a sonnet it's not, but hey.:-)
"All right," Derek said looking around. "I think I've got it. Lani, once
you know what that stuff is made of find the most effective way of
destroying it permanently. I want it vaporized if possible." He turned to
Philip, "You'll need to consecrate the water, I think it will be more
effective if you do it and I you're knowledge of that sort of thing is a bit
better than mine."
