Right then Kat's cross glowed just slightly and a whispered '.. if you need
me, just call out...' touched her mind. Now matter how else Julia felt, she
had come to care about the little girl a great deal and would do whatever
she could to watch out for her --
"Here's my room," Kat said as she led Miranda inside the room she had worked
so diligently to decorate and make "pretty." "You can see the garden from
here, it's really pretty at night. And this is Tuffy," she held up the bear
and showed him to her friend proudly. She was still young enough that she
wasn't ashamed to show off her toys. "What do you...." a sudden warmth
generating from the crucifix she wore stopped the child in mid sentence. In
her mind she heard Julia's voice ans she knew.....Julia was gone...leaving.
The little girl gulped hard, not wanting to cry in front of Miranda. But
she felt like crying. It seemed like she was always losing people she cared
about. One by one they just vanished. She pulled the crucifix out
fromunder her top and held it tightly. "I will," she whispered back, "you
too okay?" She bit her lip and looked at Miranda, not realizing that the
sign of the true light she held in her hand might be upsetting ot her
friend.
