I drifted towards the living room, a sudden calm coming over me as I moved through the house and up the stairs towards my bedroom. No one here but you chickadee, I thought with a smile, just me...and the peace I needed, no more thoughts of resisting the urge to go back to a happier, less complicated time. I stood before my wardrobe, standing on tip toe to reach my secret...all this time I had kept it stocked...I had known that somehow, sometime we would be reacquainted. The small metallic box found it's way into my hand as I backed towards the bed, sitting and staring for a moment before opening the lid. The tiny white pills stared back at me, my breathing deeply as I ran a finger over them. Cold. Perfectly circular. I lifted one from the box, rolling it between my fingers, a smile playing over my lips before I slipped it onto my tongue, the bitter taste taking me right back...before Kat...before Connor...before Patrick...when all I was was Rachel. I lay back against my pillows, waiting for the world to shift back into focus.
