Derek:
"I don't know how she would feel about that," he said regarding their mother.  Then he kissed Ingrid goodnight and headed down for the kitchen shaking his head with a bemused expression when she mentioned  confession. For what?  Last her heard there weren't rules against having fun, well at least not some forms of it.  He put the dishes into the sink and proceeded to put the trays away.

Julia:
She had intended to bring the things down herself but should have known he'd take charge and do it himself.  So she settled on helping and then sitting on the stool, chin in hand and propped on the island she sat at and watching as he finished.

"And without an avalanche of food either." she quipped with a half grin, enjoying his smiling features during the photo album 'session' and now.  She wondered what he'd do if she voiced her opinion about him having more than the accent going for him and decided to keep it to herself for the time being.

"You sure you don't need any help?"

Derek:
"No, I'm finished," he told her.  "Jonathan can take care of the rest of it. That's why we have him."  He closed the cupboard door and walked over to where she sat, taking a seat on a stool beside her.  "When do we have to be at Marissa's?"

Julia:
She tilted her head to look at his watch before answering "Ten am."

Then she propped her chin back in her hand and asked with the same half smiled "Have fun?"

Julia knew he had, and hadn't seen him smile as much in quite a while, but she also wanted to hear it from him and, quite simply, she liked talking with him.  She'd gotten to learn more about his family too.  She smiled with
the thought that she had had almost a perfect night.

Derek:
Derek rested his elbows on the counter, lacing his fingers together.  "As a matter of fact, I did," he admitted.  He gazed over at her his eyes sparkling a bit.  It had been a lovely evening and he didn't want it to end,
but he didn't want Julia staying up to late either.  He looked at her closely trying to judge whether or not she was tired.  He wouldn't be responsible for letting her get exhausted.  However, she seemed to be fine,
perhaps it couldn't hurt to stay up a bit longer.  "There was only one thing we forgot.  Dessert."

Julia:
"Ooops," she grinned back before sliding off the stool and catching him by the arm to playfully tug him toward the fridge and pantry "Can't have that.  What shall we raid, hmm?  I saw some rocky road in the freezer earlier.. ooh or there's that angel food cake and makings..."

She couldn't help it.  She didn't want the evening to end and seeing him like this just made her want to smile even more and keep it going.  And she knew he was probably waiting for her to say something about being tired and she would.. when it happened.

But for now... "You like angel food cake, don't you? All that whipped cream and sponge cake and strawberries with the red stuff.... and ice cream. I like mine with ice cream."

She opened the fridge to make sure they had all the things needed to make the small individual ones.

Derek:
"Doesn't that make it soggy," he asked curiously.  He'd never had it like that before.  The strawberries and whipped cream yes, but not the ice cream. He peered into the fridge and pulled out some fresh strawberries that Jonathan had cut up and added sugar to, so there was a little red juice though probably not the heavy syrup Julia was talking about.  "Will these do?"  He preferred them like this personally.  He realized he was enjoying this little bit of domesticity or perhaps it was just the company he was sharing.  Either way, he was fairly happy despite the worries that still plagued him.

Julia:
She looked at them and took a small one out, taking a bite and wiggling her eyebrows with a smile "Perfect and look what I found."

She took the can of whipped cream out, done with the strawberry and gave Derek a look as she put the finger on the lever that would spray the cream out "And putting ice cream on the small ones doesn't make it soggy.. because you're eating it too soon for it to really melt."

She casually moved the tip of the can in his direction and raised her eyebrows jusssssst a little as a smile played with her lips.

Julia:
She saw the look in his eyes and looked at the can, mock thoughtful before winking and offering it to him to hold while she opened up the freezer "I wasn't going to spray you.... this time."

She got the container of vanilla ice cream and closed both doors, moving to put what she had in her hands on the counter and get a couple of bowls and silverware before getting what he was holding and putting them with the rest and 'shooing' him to his stool.

"Watch and be amazed." she drawled as if she were a chef or something  "I used to make these with my mom all the time growing up.  My one weakness -strawberries, especially chocolate covered ones."

With practiced ease she sliced up a couple of strawberries and put them to the side, then went about making the small cakes, finishing them off with icecream, the strawberries, whipped cream and the slices of  strawberry she had cut making a decorative top.

"Tada." she said a few minutes later and passing him his desert while doing a quick clean up and bringing hers to her stool and take an appreciative bite from. "Mmmmm..."

She closed her eyes and felt the treat melt against her tongue and grinned before opening her eyes again, stating the obvious even to Derek "I think I like food."

Derek:
"Yes, I've noticed," he replied taking a bite of his own dessert.  It was indeed very good, not to mention it looked quite impressive.  "Jonatha would be very proud," he told her.  "It's delicious," he added.  He looked up our at her and smiled suddenly.  Picking up a napkin, he carefully wiped some whipped cream from the tip of her nose.

Julia:
"oh my.. " she blushed when she realized she had had cream on her nose and was ready to cover her face in embarrassment "What is it about me and my nose......" she asked, remembering the way she had shown up today after working at the other house and as near to mortified as she could get.

Derek:
Derek reached out and gave her hand an encouraging squeeze.  "You're nose is just fine," he told her.  Actually, he thought it had been rather sweet, but he didn't want to cause her any embarrassment by not telling her and having her find out later.  Neither the whipped cream or the dirt changed the way he saw her.
Julia:
She smiled crookedly and looked down at his hand, commenting quietly "So long as you're around with a napkin hmm?"

"Of course, if I get this each time," she added with an almost shy smile, squeezing his hand in return and looking up at him to see his reaction "I might have to walk around with things just to stick on it."

Derek:
Derek was amazed over and over again by her reactions to all of this.  He just couldn't fathom why she would have any interest in him in the first place.  Yet she certainly seemed to.  "I don't know that I would recommend that, people might start to stare," he said a smile touching the edge of his lips.  He tightened his grip on her hand slightly though, he'd always be there if she needed him, that went without saying, at least for him.

Julia:
Her lips twitched at that even as she regarded their hands and the closeness they felt then and her smile softened "Good point...."

"Derek..."

She was going to say more but then blinked and stiffened, squeezing his hand in reaction as her head turned toward the door seconds before Michael came through it, literally.

"What happened?" she stood, knowing something was wrong, only to visibly flinch and paled when the Archangel, nodding once at Derek in grim greeting, held out the crucifix she had given Kat.

"Oh God no..." she reached out and took it trembling fingers before looking at Derek "She's gone...Derek, Kat's gone."
