"When will they be here?" Alex asked, looking around in curious wonder, touching things here and there and reveling in being back among the immortals.

Almost.  She needed her first sacrifice.

---
"Soon, Alex.  Soon." Mahel answered "Why don't you go visit your friend and assure her that the others will be coming? I need to start bringing back my brother."

He signaled one of his personal guards and watched as they both left, only to turn to the artifact that sat on an alter nearby, just out of the reach of the sacrifice that lay there ready.

"It will only hurt.. a moment." he said, walking toward her.

---
Alex reentered the chambers Julia was being kept in, the guard standing just outside the doorway.

"Hello, Julia." she greeted her, only to make a sound of slight distress at seeing her friend's wrists.  Julia had been trying to get out and her wrists were red and even cut in places "And you shouldn't do that to yourself, either."

She raised her hand and ran her finger along one of the cuts that was bleeding and drew back a drop of blood, already feeling the Hunger within.
