Amber sighed, getting up to take care of her empty
glass and cleared-off plate. "What do you guys
usually do with your dishes around here?" she asked,
trying to get started on a different topic, and hoping
it would help clear the frustration in the atmosphere.
Brought out of her silent musings by the sound of Amber's voice,
Kristin raised her head and gave the girl a small smile.
"We don't normally get the chance to do anything about them--Jonathon
is too 'on the ball'," she said.
Casting a quick glance at Philip, she took another drink of her
water, arranging thoughts in her head again. She still didn't think
Derek was right, but his adamant refusal to allow them to go to Boston
made Kristin wonder if Philip and her and actually thought the
situation through completely; or had what occured between them during
that conversation clouded their judgement? She wasn't sure about him,
but she knew she hadn't been thinking straight.
Well, whatever had prompted the decision to go, she was sticking by
it. Heading up to Boston personally was the only way to resolve a
couple of issues, including whatever this situation with Jane involved.
She hoped Philip was right and Julia had had some luck with Derek.
Looking back to Amber, Kristin pushed a few stray hairs behind her
ear. "Did you get the rest of your things sorted out?" If Julia had
been able to convince Derek, she wanted to make sure Amber was at least
partially settled in before she left the girl on her own in San Fransisco.
