Refusing to show the demon any fear, Kristin closed her eyes for a moment. It wasn't fear for herself as much as it was for her friends; she'd faced the possibility of her own death before, and as frightening as that possibility was, she was far more terrified at what would happen to everyone else.
Opening her eyes, she saw Philip laying on the ground. Blinking back tears, she heard Derek speak defiantly to the Being. Derek's jaw tightened. He knew Julia wouldn't do that, no matter what happened, she knew better than that. "I think you are confused," he told the being. His stomach turned over as he watched it putting Kristin on the altar. The Thing turned back to Derek and Kristin pulled at her restraints. She still hadn't gotten the chance to get to know Julia as well as everyone else yet, but from what she'd seen of the other woman--well, she struck Kristin as someone who would fearlessly accept the given risks if there was a chance she could defeat evil.
