I think your best bet is to post this question on stackoverflow with a link
to the code. (jsbin or otherwise). For a question like this, where the
answer could be related to Polymer, JavaScript, or PHP, that's your best
resource.

For questions like, "How does Polymer do X," "Why does Polymer do X," this
mailing list is probably your best resource.

To answer the concrete question -- using setTimeout or setInterval
shouldn't cause a problem with Polymer.
