It's not because we now don't use the pool command currently that we won't switch the default at some point. And when we switch the default, that doesn't mean that all clients will upgrade to this new version. So maybe you want to have 1 hostname for the case of using the pool, and several for the case of not using the pool. And in Debian we ship more than 1 (s)ntp client, none is currently installed by default, but we might do that at some point.
