- how should the client find IPv6 servers? they are currently returned only for the 2*pool.ntp.org name (4 IPv4 + 4 IPv6 addresses)Any comments on this? It would be nice if it was possible to have a configuration that works well on IPv4 only and IPv6 only systems. Would it be ok if the clients used just the 2* name? I suspect this would generate too much of IPv6 traffic.
I think this experimental element in the pool should not get wired into clients. Better to just return IPv4 or IPv6 addresses determined by the type of query (A or AAAA) made, not by the name being queried. I think that was just done for debugging, and probably this should be removed as soon as possible. (it is known that the IPv6 network does not work as well as IPv4, but when that is an issue it is better to have an IPv6 on/off switch in the client than to wire this behaviour in the pool DNS) Rob _______________________________________________ pool mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ntp.org/listinfo/pool
