Gave up due to too many errors so I've just isolated these systems for now

Sorry to here you are having problems. For successful compilation on a
Raspberry Pi you might find the quick-start guide here:

helpful. Almost all recent releases have compiled without issue, including
the current 4.2.8p1 stable version, and the 4.3.7 development version. I'm
using all the latest updates for the Raspberry Pi Raspbian Linux variant,
the latest firmware, and the binaries produced on the Raspberry Pi 2 run on
the models B and B+ as well. I haven't tried the latest 4.3.8 as the only
fixes were for Windows.
