I had totally forgotten the existence of lib emacsreadline, even though the
file claims I wrote it (to link with Brian logan's package).

So I thought I would try it in the pop11 command, using V16:

        % pop11 ":uses emacsreadline; emacsreadline()=>"
        ? will it work?
        ** [will it work ?]

That may perhaps give a clue as to what needs to be changed in Poplog
V16???

It also allows popracer to get a little further before it crashes in V16!
