Unfortunately, running the newer kernels in order to do any more testing
will seriously hold up other urgent tasks (I am dreadfully dependent on
Ved...)

So for the time being I won't be able to provide more information. I'll see
if I can do more testing after I've dealt with my non-poplog backlog.

I have turned off selinux as shown by:

        % sestatus
        SELinux status:                 disabled

I also had to turn off secure boot in order to allow hibernate to work.

I'll try to find time to post a report on bugzilla in case my summary of
the problem rings bells for people who are not poplog users. It's hard to
believe that the change causing my problem affects only poplog.

I'll have to suppress kernel updates for a while.
