I've had an Altavista.com web mail account for a number of months and
generally ignore it. However, blundering around the web in my usual
fashion, I came across a snippet of information at the University of
Pennsylvania that caught my eye.
"smtp for altavista.com : email.1stup.com"
I set up an altavista account on my e-mail client and connected to Free
AV -ISP and attempted to send a message. To my astonishment it actually
worked. However, being pretty much an neophyte at all of this, I have
been unable to get it to POP.
I did try : mail.1stup.com - but that seems to bring up a password error
message.
I have trolled the Altavista site but nowhere do they say that they offer
anything other than web-based mail. This has me stumped.
If any of you have more success with this than I have had, I'd really
appreciate hearing about it.
