Hi all,

That's to the folks on this list, I've found what seem to be a couple of
very reliable POP only accounts, viz. zonnet.nl, etc. I was wondering if
anyone has tried using their own SMTP server to use in conjunction with
them.

I having been trying out "Advanced Direct Emailer", a small (under 1 MB
download) SMTP server which has been working amazingly well. It is easy
enough to configure so that even a neophyte like me can get it up and
running. It also has ESMTP, so that access must be authenticated. It
loads quickly, even on my antediluvian computer. It also has terrifically
detailed logs, for each message sent, so that you get to see exactly the
interaction your server has with one of the biggies like Yahoo.

It's shareware ($40. US) and is available for a15 day trial; I think it
may just be worth it.I have been able to send directly to the mail
servers at large ISP's like IBM and the littun's like "Compu-Drone" :>).
Although such software is subject to abuse from spammers, the people on
this list can hardly be considered among that rather heinous group and so
are the very people who might enjoy using it for experimental purposes or
for other entirely legitimate uses.
