There is at least one free ISP that offers a workaround. Although Free
AltaVista offers only web-based e-mail, they do provide an SMTP server to
use when you are connected to them. Although I haven't checked it out, it
may also work with other 1stup branded FISP's like BootBox et al.
Their server is:
e-mail.1stup.com

If you use any of the 1stup brands of FISP's you might want to take this
SMTP 'out for a spin'.
