Being a newcomer to the list, even after reading hundreds of postings
from the archives, it's hard to know what is 'old hat ' to the other
listers. The recent posting about Newmail having an smtp server was
something I already knew, having signed up for it months before I joined
the list. It was in beta back then and its service was less than stellar.
It is still in beta but has been much more relaible in the past few
months.

This may be an oldie for many of the listers but just in case:

//mail.lycos.co.uk

The web page touts their 'new' service (late October 2000) as

POP3: mx1.lycos.co.uk

SMTP: mx1.lycos.co.uk

It offers 10MB of storage and requires 'pop before send'. (A nice little
welcome message is sent after signup with all these details.)

This service seemed a bit dicy in the first 24 hours after sign-up
(bounced messages, user unknown errors) but since then has been working
like a charm, so I suggest a cooling off period for anyone giving it a
go.

Hope this is of some use.
