You should just use your username in the "username" field of your email
client.

Sometimes there is just something there you don't see, such as a
misspelling or wrong upperlevel domain.
Try signing up for a new account with a different username and see if
you can set that one up. Sometimes in doing that, it reveals to me the
problem with the first one I was trying to set up.
