On 6/17/01 at 6:16 AM Martha Prednor sharpened a quill and thoughtfully
inscribed:
>Gosh, you think that's a lot of domain names?
>
>I always thought this was the one with the most domains
>
>http://mail.communityspirit.net:100/webmail
>
>It's the same deal -- the mail server is mail.communityspirit.netm and
yes, it should support POP and IMAP and even ESMTP if they haven't turned
it offf,
>snip . . .
Been having a bit of a clear out and came across the above. Has anyone else
checked it out?
I crawled along to the site where there are actually a number of
non-provocative names such as "suite1.com" etc. However, before signing up,
I read the bold print:
"All new members are sent a welcome letter enclosed in a discrete envelope.
Undeliverable welcome letters will result in immediate account
deactivation."
Since a full snail mail address is required, one can assume that is what's
being referred to in the above. I wonder if they really do, postage costs
being what they are?
Still it might be interesting to sign up and use it for websites that you
just know are going start an endless stream of spam directed at its hapless
visitors who innocently sign up for their free offer, newsletter or
get-rich-quick scheme . If one's "communityspirit.net" account disappeared
in a puff of outrage, it would inconvenience only spammers. To quote
another Martha, "That would be a good thing."
