Re: Glad to see the Blairwitch Project overlooked (but obviously not for any
formal reasons, though there is a fundamental flaw that keeps it from being
anything but suspenseful).

Clarification, in my dissing of the film, I meant to say that the
Blairwitch Project suffered from a fundamental flaw which ensured it was
anything but suspenseful. Hint to the directors (and those doing the
big-budget sequel): it would have been a more successful film had it used
only one camera. Cutting between 16mm and video, you can't help but be
continually aware of the editor's/director's hands throughout, undermining
what might otherwise have been a tension-riddled 'scary' film. What we're
left with is a barely passable film-school experiment that bored me (and
most of my film school friends).

So the academy gets my vote for showing good taste/judgment in this case.

And I'd agree with the Richard Farnsworth nomination (although I found the
movie on the whole a bit dull. The only thing keeping me up was the
chattering seniors behind me - not loud enough to keep my mom up, though -
although she is their peer in age).

In the spririt of being curmudgeonly,
Geoff
