Was it The Ecstasy Club by D. Rushkoff?  They started a commune in an abandoned
warehouse in West Oakland, and held rave parties to raise money, but the shit
hit the fan, and bad things happened.  It was kind of dumb, but nevertheless I
enjoyed it.
