Well, we figure you can just watch the t.v. show and get your info there.
Just kidding, sporto! Providence is HAPPENING! Why, even as I type this
there are GIANT STATUES OF MISTER POTATO HEAD littered all about the city.
One of them is even, get this, an Edgar Allen Poe version of Mister Potato
Head. Of course if I had my druthers there'd be an H.P. Lovecraft Mister
Potato Head statue as well (preferably on the East Side, near Brown and RISD,
where I live) but that's not to be. Also, I'm a little miffed that the giant
MISTER POTATO HEAD STATUES (I've counted four so far) do not have
interchangeable noses and ears and mouths. Just think of the hilarity if I
could remove the Chef Mister Potato's kooky hat and place it ATOP Edgar Allen
Poe! Oh, the hilarity. Apparently all that hoo-hah I hear about Providence
being a renaissance city is true!
Oh, and last week Lois and Mark Robinsin and Honeybunch played, which
was nice because there are almost no indiepop shows around here anymore (why,
I remember a few years back when Small Factory would play darn near every
fortnight! And this was BEFORE they put out that crappy last album, too!).
Anyway, Honeybunch were great - this was the first local show they played
since Marine Research blew through town last summer (and boy, did they ever
blow....). Mark Robinson was beyond awful. Him, his guitar, and his drum
machine. Utter crap. Songs about skiing or something. Of course I always
thought Unrest's best moment was when they covered that Miaow song. Oh, and
"Yes She is My Skinhead Girl" was kind of catchy. The last time Unrest
played Providence I got thrown out for being underage, and while they didn't
give me my money back when I got thrown out of that Unrest show I DID manage
to sell the free tour single they were giving away for something like tenfold
what it cost to get into the show originally, so I suppose it all works out
karmically in the end.
Oh, and Lois. Remember Lois? Lois was phenomenal. So charming and
wonderful. I'm totally smitten. And her new album, the one with the Fugazi
guy, is stellar. Great stuff. Buy it. See her. Love. Jump. Shout.
