on the remaster biz, I once heard of a Louis Armstrong remaster that had 
"modern" sounds in place of the studio "orchestra" that made the original 
song float off the speakers.  Needless to say, no drum machine could ever 
duplicate that!

Speaking of Portland, or at least of late, would the next logical step into 
Elliott Smith (from "Figure 8") be to "XO" or say, one of the earlier more 
dramatic acoustic albums?
