Sexy records.... mmmm, an interesting topic.
I would include Crowded House's "Together Alone" in a
list of sexy records - it has a real earthy sensuality
to it. Also (and this is a little weird) Nick Cave and
the Bad Seeds, "Your Funeral, My Trial" and "The
Boatman's Call". Both are very dark and stormy - but
there's something dreamy and sensual about them.
A few slightly out of left field -
*Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue", or if things are kinky
- "Bitches Brew"
*"Antonio Carlos Jobim and Francis Albert Sinatra" - a
little tacky in parts - but sexy none the less.
*Pretty much anything by golden-voiced Astrid
Gilberto. "Corcovado" is one of the most beautiful
Jazz songs ever written. Wow... sexy!
*"Chet Baker Sings"... West Coast croon at its finest.
Check out "My Funny Valentine" and "I Fall in Love Too
Easily".
I guess Jazz is kinda out of the Popjourno universe,
but it is a very very sensual type of music. Most
definitely.
For ultimate kitsch factor - you can't go past "Dionne
Warwick sings the Hal David/Burt Bacharach
Songbook"... it's like listening to melted chocolate
running over velvet...
Speaking of velvet, I went out with a girl that made a
mix tape of epic Velvet Underground songs (Heroin,
Venus in Furs etc), Robert Johnson blues and the
Stones - purely designed for those more amorous
moments. It was quite the tape - more sexual than sexy
though I guess. Big fat dirty gritty blues guitars....
Anyway... Just thought I'd give some suggestions. It's
good to see the list getting a little busier!!!
