There is not much chance to fix it unless you can provide a PDF that reproduces 
the problem.  Can you make a PDF that you can post?  Could you mail your PDF to 
someone privately?
You can try getting a stack trace by building with options like
./configure --enable-build-type=debugfull --enable-static --disable-shared
and then running pdftoppm under the debugger or under valgrind.

If you have access to git, you can make a git clone using the instructions at 
http://poppler.freedesktop.org/ and try doing a git bisect if you can find an 
old version that does not crash.
