I thought that building poppler without splash became deprecated/unmaintained when building with splash became the default, and the cmake and ifdef macros were left only to make it easy to revert in case someone found a situation that required building without splash. Does the recently improved overprint support require splash? Can any of the pdf viewers using poppler provide timings to justify building without splash?
