The recent changes are likely sufficient (imho) to justify
releasing popt.
These are bout the only things that I see today that should
be cleaned up some:
1) strdup_locale_from_utf8() should be rewritten.
There are obvious simplifications, such as collapsing the flow
to call iconv only once in a do { ... } while loop with pin 2nd arg
being NULL on 1st call. The variable names bother me too ;-)
2) POPT_fprintf looks useful (for rpm at least), and should likely
be added to popt.h and documented.
Any volunteers?
