Salut Francois,

from my POV, what's missing is the integration of the Alpine port into mainline, which would require

a) someone volunteering to successfully & regularly test the port against the TCK, jtreg, etc.
- It makes no sense to merge in an incomplete port.

b) someone proposing a Portola JEP for integration in mainline
- See for example how this was done for the s390x port, per https://openjdk.java.net/jeps/294 . In practice, the Portola JEP might be even smaller in scope, as it doesn't add a new architecture.

c) someone signing up to maintain it in the mainline
- It makes no sense to merge in a port without someone interested in keeping it up to date with the ongoing evolution of the JDK code base.

Regarding a), Gil has posted earlier in the thread, but it's not clear to me whether Azul has any additional changes outside of the portola repository that go into their binaries that would be relevant in the context of testing.

And of course, just because an organization has a port they maintain for their own customers, it shouldn't be taken to imply they would also be able to devote the additional resources necessary in order to maintain a port within the community.

So my suggestion would be to start a fresh thread with Gil and Mikael (CC:ed), the Portola Project Lead, on the portola-dev mailing list, about specific opportunities for you to assist with a, b, or c.

cheers,
