Just for the record, as people very often get this wrong:
There is no mandoc(7) language.
There is the modern mdoc(7) language using .Dd .Dt .Os .Sh .Nm .Nd.
There is the ancient man(7) language using .TH .SH.
Both are handled by the groff(1) and mandoc(1) utilities.
For these utilities, the -mandoc input flag merely means:
Autodetect the language and use -mdoc or -man, whichever applies.
For mandoc(1), autodetection is the default; groff(1) requires a flag.
