I forgot to mention: xmonad now saves its state in .xmonad/xmonad.state
on exit, which means that things like fullscreen vs. vertical split
vs. horizontal split are restored right after login via xdm (or
startx or whatever you are using).
This may be a little bit confusing for the first few days (at least
it was for me).
