You don't need lua to create pkg-message dynamically or do many other things. It was possible long before invention of lua itself :-) First, you may use pkg-message.in https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/porters-handbook/book/#using-sub-files Second, you may modify ${WRKDIR}/pkg-message using post-build target of port's Makefile, instead of pkg-message.in or in addition.
