As all the hardware this runs on *should* mostly all work out of the box. I've been doing a fair amount of investigation and ran into a question on the graphics/drm-kmod. pkg-descr indicates "CURRENT receives the most recent development DRM" which at the time of this writing is 6.6 (I'm on 6.1). But looking at the Makefile, the conditional only appears to go as far as 6.1. I only ask because as part of my world/kernel dance I use src.conf to suck in video. So should I pick thee 66-kmod or can I depend on drm-kmod to make the right choice? Sorry this is long winded and thank you for your time and advice. --ChrisThis really should go to [email protected].
Right. But I'm already on 8 lists (including commit lists) and not on x11. current also seemed appropriate. But point well taken. :)
If I understand, 6.6 is still considered development.
Sure. Given I'm already expected to take the risks involved with CURRENT. I'mfine taking the chance with 6.6. I guess my main concern was more with getting
it built with the build world/kernel. Which I see below will not happen. So thank you for taking the time to put me on the correct path.
It should work fine tor Alder Lake-P systems, but, since it is new and has had limited testing on a wide array of platforms, it may not work as hoped. I plan on updating my Alder Lake (not -P) to 6.6 in a few days, but I have not gotten around to it. Also, it requires OSVERSION >= 1500023. You must explicitly install graphics/drm-66-kmod. I assume that drm-kmod will be bumped to 6.6 when there has been enough usage to feel confident that it is OK on all devices that are now running 6.1. I am not a developer, so I may not correctly understand the status of 6.6 and x11 is the place to get any answers.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, Kevin! :) --Chris -- Be a measuring stick of quality. Not everyone is used to an environment where excellence is expected.
