Cairo doesn't have a glitz dependancy, well not a *required* one :).
We must tread carefully here. GTK+ 2.8 requires cairo, and a cairo
enabled devel/pango. Also other ports will pick up cairo automagically as
well (which sucks for porting, not to mention release testing).
This will also play havoc with WANTLIBS too.
I'll take a look at your ports after the release.
