I tried two DVDs handy, "Robots" and "The hitchhikers guide to the
galaxy".  A small sample but don't think there is anything special
about those two.  I tried again to write/read CDs and DVDs, and
that worked so I'm confident of the hardware.

I will get mplayer data later this afternoon.
