Ah this one again. It is because of the use of gcc for at least part of the
build (presumably related to gfortran). (clang has an integrated assembler
which is newer).
On some archs gcc is configured to use a newer version of gas, but
that's not done on amd64/i386, there were at least some build issues
with ld.bfd in base with that (py-scipy and asterisk had USE_LLD=no
for a while because of this). I'm not sure if these issues still exist.
This version of numpy builds on amd64 without patch-numpy_core_setup_common_py
if you add a BDEP on devel/gas and add this in pre-build
