make package resulted in an error... Error: /tmp/ports/pobj/py-zmq-22.3.0-python3/fake-amd64-python3/usr/local/lib/python3.8/site-packages/zmq/tests/__pycache__/conftest.cpython-38-pytest-5.0.1.pyc does not exist ...which was easily fixed by running make update-plist. Run tested this update on amd64 with spyder and jupyter-notebook. So far everything seems to work.
