There was, simply put, no need for you to do it.

Test it thoroughly first, then care about the portage red-tape.

By 'drop it in qemu/patches and build the port', I was meaning the
following sequence of events:

$ cd /usr/ports/emulators/qemu
$ cat my_message[1] > patches/patch-kqemu
$ make

[1]http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-ports&m=119324827425479&w=2

God knows how you managed to delete (or replace) the *existing*
patches/patch-configure file and get that crapload of errors; but,
frankly, I'm not interested in your fights with the ports
infrastructure.

I posted my diffs here because people have asked me for them -- that
was probably the wrong place to do it. I'm sorry for that.
