I'm not sure if I understand you correctly.  I wasn't able to find any recent 
solution to this issue in the ports mailing list archive.  The only thing I 
could find was my old fix to 4.0 ports, but maybe I didn't craft the correct 
search, which is a possibility.

Agreed, but Xf4vnc is not built as a package, which is a barrier for some.  
TightVNC is a very familiar solution for many people.
