After some off-list discussion, I tried compiler options changes to
reduce the datasize requirements and it turns out '-g' from
DEBUG_PACKAGES (set in ../Makefile.inc) is chiefly to blame for this.
Updated tarball attached; this disables the DEBUG_PACKAGES here. I've
built it now with the default datasize-cur=12G without issues.

It may be worth discussing if Makefile.inc in ports with branches is
the right place for setting DEBUG_PACKAGES, or if it would be better to
move it at least for this port into the Makefiles in 0.8/,0.10/ and 11/.
