That's the same i remember. There also were some considerations to enable threading only on arches known to work but as that could result in problems stemming from different code paths the idea was dismissed. To summarize, we need to make sure that a) it builds and passes the tests on all supported arches b) it works with all ports and possible fallout gets fixed As this is pending for a few years now i don't actually think it'll be done in short term but i'd be happy to be proven wrong.
