fancy that. I just noticed this yesterday during a fresh install on a new laptop. inkscape was a lingering package i'd kept handy for years now so I reinstalled it, and naturally had to run it at least once to see how the package was faring. I was taken aback by how much cpu inkscape chews just rendering its interface. the ruler marks make a mess, and the program is practically unusable. I spent time even searching around inkscape forums to see if there was a setting causing this, and while i found several posts over the past few years of people having the exact same problem to a 't', the inkscape folks kept writing it off as a system problem and not their fault. i was unable to find anyone with a resolution. Considering inkscape is the only application i've ever seen run so poorly, i'm going to have to keep blame pointed a little more toward something in their code or perhaps one of its dependencies is doing something stupid. i noticed its memory stats dialog is unable to show info on malloc memory status, i don't know if this is the same as when i first installed it years ago. unfortunately i have nothing to offer as a fix but i can at least confirm the ruler marks issue here. does the program run responsively for you besides that?
