Of course running -current would be easier.  -current is going to be
pretty stable in the next months, so it shouldn't be painful, even with
a super slow machine.  The git package on 5.2 would need more work,
since it has more dependancies and I doubt they're all met.

If you choose -current:

$ cd /usr/ports/devel/git
$ make clean
$ patch < ~/patch-file
$ env SUBPACKAGE=-main make install
