Hi, here's a new hs port necessary at least for building x11/xmonad (the utf8-string library was bundled with ghc-7.6 but no longer with ghc-7.8):
A UTF8 layer for IO and Strings. The utf8-string package provides
operations for encoding UTF8 strings to Word8 lists and back, and
for reading and writing UTF8 without truncation.
