Hello ports@:
I'm having a problem getting saned to work. The scanner, through either
the simple-scan or xsane front-ends, errors-out with the message "Error
communicating with scanner".
My machine is an x86_64 running -current; my scanner is an all-in-one
Canon Pixma MG2520. sane does support this device. dmesg and output of
<usbdevs -vd> is below.
After the saned package installation, I reviewed the information at
/usr/local/share/doc/pkg-readmes/sane-backends-1.0.25p3 and made the
group and ownership changes and I am a member of the _saned group:
-----

735(_wireshark), 541(_cups), 553(_saned)
-----
I then checked whether saned was running with rcctl:
-----
/home/dutch $ doas rcctl ls on
check_quotas
cron
ntpd
pf
pflogd
saned
smtpd
sndiod
syslogd
-----
/home/dutch $ doas rcctl ls started
cron
cupsd
ntpd
pflogd
saned
smtpd
sndiod
syslogd
(To get saned started, I had to run </usr/local/libexec/saned -a dutch>;
prior to that saned was "on" but not "started"). I also added a routine
to /etc/rc.local to start saned at boot.
-----
I'm out of ideas. If anyone can point out what I'm missing, I'd be
grateful. Thanks.
